requesting TIN when it shouldn't be required

Sold some tickets recently (totaling less than $600 - and haven't sold anything else this year) and I received an email stating that I "exceeded the $600 threshold for 2022" and needed to enter a TIN in order for my payments to go through.

The whole thing seems like an error. The actual threshold (confirmed via phone with their rep) is $20,000, but again, I didn't even cross the $600 threshold mentioned in the email. Why am I getting an email in 2024 talking about 2022?

Said rep was completely useless on the phone so I decided to wait this out to see if the payments actually do go through in a few days. I was just trying to get ahead of the issue since I got that email.

I searched this issue on Google and it seems there was a similar post to this that was removed for some reason so I suspect I am not the only one having this issue. Would be curious to hear the outcome if anyone else that has encountered this.

Re: requesting TIN when it shouldn't be required

I’m on here because I’m having the exact same problem. I have only ever sold one (very cheap) ticket on StubHub, and the event hasn’t even taken place yet. But they sent me an identical email asking me to fill out this information in the app which I frankly do not want to do. Would love an explanation, because I’d like to get paid when the event takes place.

Yes - I too have no interest in providing this information if it is not really required. My event happened already so I should be paid soon unless this issue holds things up. I will update next week one way or the other.

Re: requesting TIN when it shouldn't be required

This email seems to have been sent to some users in error. If you are under the limit of 600 USD in sales for the year 2022 and 2023 and under the 5,000 USD limit for 2024, then you can ignore this request. If any issues persist, just send us a message. Sorry for the confusion!

Re: requesting TIN when it shouldn't be required

Thank you. Hopefully this doesn't hold up my payment.

It would be nice if the call center reps were made aware of the issue so that when people call with this issue, they aren't met with total confusion.
